Windows Audio Service is responsible for the above error, the problem may be caused by any of the sub-components that are required to run Windows Audio Services properly. Windows Audio Service is set to Automatic but what happens is Windows is not able to start this service automatically? The result is, no sound from your system. This error also may happen because the audio driver is corrupted, outdated or couldn’t function properly.

Method 1. Reinstall your audio driver

Sometimes, an outdated, corrupted or incompatible audio driver can cause the Audio services not responding problem. In this case, you just need to update your audio driver to resolve this problem. To do that, follow these steps:

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box. Click OK to open Device Manager.

Step 2. When Device Manager window opens, expand Sound, video and game controllers and right click on the sound device then click Uninstall device.

Step 3. Confirm the uninstall by clicking Uninstall.

Step 4. Visit your audio card manufacturer’s website to download the correct drivers for your variant of Windows 10. Then install it on your computer manually.

Step 5. Restart your computer and attempt to play a video file or audio file to check if your can hear any sound.

Method 2. Restart your audio services

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put services.msc in the Run dialog box. Click OK to open Windows services list.

  • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
  • Windows Audio
  • Plug and Play

Step 3. Make sure their Startup Type is set to Automatic and Service status are Running or restart all of them once again.

Step 4. If Startup Type is not Automatic then double-click the services and then set them to Automatic in the property window.

Step 5. Restart your computer and then check if the problem has resolved.

Method 3. Start Windows Audio components

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put services.msc in the Run dialog box and click OK.
Step 2. Make sure these following Windows Audio components are running:

  • RPC Endpoint Mapper
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher

Step 3. If there are any of these services isn’t running, right-click on the not running service and click Start.

Step 4. Restart your computer.
