Method 1. Using Services Snap-in

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R and type services.msc in the run dialog box. Click OK to open Services snap-in.

Step 2. When the Services window opens, locate Task Scheduler service. Right-click on the service and select Property to open its property sheet.

Step 3. In the Services window, set the Startup type to Automatic and then click Start to initiate the service. Click Apply > OK.

To change Startup Type to Automatic, open an elevated Command Prompt and execute these below commands:

  • REG EXPORT HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule %TEMP%\Schedule.reg
  • REG ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule /F /V Start /T REG_DWORD /D 2

Step 4. Close Services snap-in and restart the machine.

Method 2. Using Registry Editor

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then type regedit in run dialog box. Click OK to open the Registry Editor.

Step 2. Go to following registry key:

Step 3. Find Start name registry DWORD (REG_DWORD). Then double-click on it changes its value.

Note: If you can’t search for the corresponding key then right-click in an empty area in the right window and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) value.

Step 4. In Edit DWORD Value box, type 4 and click OK.

You can now close Registry Editor and reboot your computer. After reboot, the error has gone.

Method 3. Delete Corrupted Task Scheduler Tree Cache

Step 1. Open Registry Editor.

Step 2. Browse the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree

Step 3. Right-click on Tree Key and rename it to Tree.2. Then again open Task Scheduler to check if the error message still pops up or not.

Step 4. Now, rename Tree.2 back to Tree and then expand this registry key.
