This message usually happens after running ipconfig /all or ipconfig in Command Prompt, and at times it also occurs when it comes to Internet connection problems. This error has something to do with the network configurations or the network adapter.

How To Fix Media disconnected error message on Windows 10

FIX 1. Run Windows Network Troubleshooter

Before you try anything more drastic, you should run a Windows Troubleshooter and hope that it will find the cause of Media disconnected issue, and provide you with the proper solution. To use Windows Network Troubleshooter, do the following:

1. Click on the Start button and select Settings.

2. Select Updates and security and then click on Troubleshoot.

3. Select Network Adapter and click Run the troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter.

4. Next, follow the prompts to finish it.

5. Restart your system and check if Media disconnect has been resolved.

FIX 2. Reset WINSOCK and IP Stack

1. Start Command Prompt as Administrator.

2. In Command Prompt, Type the following command one by one and tap Enter after each command to execute it

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

3. Once these commands are executed, reboot your system.

After restarting, you can run ipconfig /all or ipconfig in Command Prompt and check if the Media disconnected message disappears.

Fix 3. Disable Sharing of Network

Many Windows users who have the same issue as you do fix the Media disconnected problem by disabling network sharing for the network adapter. Here are the steps:

1. Go to the Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.

2. On the left-hand side, click on Change adapter settings.

3. Right click on your network connection that give you the error, and select Properties.

4. Go to the Sharing tab, and uncheck the box next to “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection“.

5. Click OK and reboot your system.

Fix 4. Enable your network adapter

If your networks adapters have been disabled, you’re no doubt getting the Media disconnected error message when running ipconfig/all or ipconfig in Command Prompt. In order to fix this problem, you’ll need to enable your network adapters so your network works properly.

1. Press Windows Key + R then type “devmgmt.msc” in the Run dialog box. Click OK to open Device Manager.

2. In the Device Manager window, expand the Network adapters.

3. Right click on your network adapter that is having the issue, and check whether the first option is Disable or Enable. If it is Disable, the adapter was enabled, if it is Enable, the adapter was disabled. In case the adapter is disabled, enable it and reboot your system.

Now you try to run the command again to check if your problem has been fixed.

FIX 5. Network reset

If all above solutions don’t help you, go ahead with manual Network Reset.

1. Click on the Start button and select Settings.

2. Select Network & Internet.

3. Go to Status section, click on Network reset > click Reset now and follow the procedure to reset the network.

4. Restart your computer.
