Method 1. Unblock your Word file
1. Right-click the .doc file that the error arises in. Click Properties.
2. In the General tab, check the Unblock button.
3. Click OK to save changes.
Method 2. Disable Word’s Protected View options
1. Open the Word application.
2. Click on Word’s File tab > select Options.
3. Go to the Trust Center tab, click the Trust Center Settings button.
4. Select Protected View to open the options.
5. Uncheck all the boxes under Protected view section. Click OK.
6. Close the MS Word and reboot your computer.
Method 3. Add the files to a trusted folder location
1. Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
2. Move the document file the Word experienced an error issue arises for, to an alternative folder.
3. Launch the Word application.
4. Click the File tab and click on the Options.
5. Click on the Trust Center Settings button on the Trust Center tab.
6. In the left side of Trust Center window, select Trusted Locations, then click on Add new location. Microsoft Office Trusted Location window will open.
7. Now, in the Microsoft Office Trusted Location, click the Browse button and select the folder that you moved the Word documents to. Click OK.
8. Check the Subfolders of this location are also trusted checkbox. Click OK to save the changes.
9. Close the MS Word and then reboot your computer.
After restarting try to open the file again. You should be able to open the document file without the error.
