How To Fix Volume Icon Missing From Windows 10, 8 or 7

Method 1. Changed settings Via Settings App

Step 1. Open Settings on Windows 10. Click the lower-left Start button on the desktop to expand Start Menu, and then click Settings in it. .

Step 2. In the Settings app, go to Personalization > Taskbar.

Step 3. Under Taskbar, click Turn system icons on or off link.

Step 4. Now under Turn system icons on or Off, locate the Volume option and make sure it is turned On.

It should immediately recover the Volume or Sound Icon on your Windows Taskbar.

Method 2. Restore The Missing Volume Icon Via Registry

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then type regedit in Run dialog box to open Registry Editor. Click OK.

Step 2. In the left pane of Registry Editor window, go to following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

Step 3. In the right pane of Explorer registry key, locate HideSCAVolume entry, double-click on it, and then set the Value data to 0 and click OK. Or you can also directly delete this registry DWORD as well.

Step 4. You can close Registry Editor and restart your computer to make changes effective.

After restarting your computer, your volume icon will no longer be missing.

Method 3. Enable The Missing Volume Icon Via Group Policy

This way is applicable to only Enterprise and Pro editions of Windows 10.

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put gpedit.msc in run dialog box. Click OK to open Local Group Policy Editor. You can refer how to fix “Windows cannot find gpedit.msc” in Windows 10 from this tutorial.

Step 2. In the Group Policy Editor, go to:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start menu and Taskbar

Step 3. In the right-side, find the policy named Remove the volume control icon and right-click on it and select Edit.

Step 4. Tick Disabled option and then click Apply > OK.

Step 5. Reboot your computer.
