It’s quite easy to join a Microsoft Teams meeting. All you have to do is click the link in the invitation email that says “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting“.
However, Microsoft Teams may refuse to allow you to attend a meeting at times. Teams may be stuck on the ‘Connecting’ screen. Alternatively, you may encounter a slew of errors.
This guide can help you troubleshoot the following issues:
- Microsoft Teams is stopped at the Connecting stage.
- The Join button in Microsoft Teams isn’t working.
- Microsoft Teams error: ‘Sorry, we couldn’t connect you’.
How To Fix Unable to Connect to Microsoft Teams Meetings
Quick Fixes:
1. Restart your PC as well as your modem. Any network connection issues should be resolved as a result of this.
2. If logging out and back in did not cure the problem, proceed to the next step in the troubleshooting process.
Method 1. Clear Your Teams Desktop Client Cache
Try clearing the cache if the desktop client becomes stuck. Close Teams and proceed with the instructions listed below.
1. In the Windows Search bar, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams.
2. Open the Cache folder. Delete all of the files in the Cache folder. After then, see if you can attend the meeting.
3. If the problem still bothers you, clear the cache folders listed below.

\\%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\blob_storage
\\%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\databases.

4. Open Teams again. Check to see whether the problem has been resolved.
Method 2. Use the Teams Web App
If you can’t join the meeting using the desktop client, try using the Microsoft Teams web app. Access Teams in private or incognito mode if possible.
If you already have the Teams mobile app installed on your phone, use it. You can also join the conference from your phone and then transfer the call to your computer.
You should be able to log in and attend the meeting on another app or device if this is merely a local issue.
Method 3. Book the Meeting in Teams
Some people noted that scheduling the meeting using Teams will avoid any complications. Outlook and Teams appear to occasionally fail to sync all of the information from the user profile.
Meeting connection issues appeared to be more common among users who scheduled the meeting in Outlook.
Method 4. Update Microsoft Teams
If a new version of the Teams desktop client is available, install it and see if this simple fix worked. On older Teams versions, some functionalities may not work properly.
1.Click on your profile picture and select Check for updates.
2. Install the updates, then restart your computer and Teams.
3. Rejoin the meeting if you haven’t already.
Method 5. Whitelist teams.microsoft.com
If you’re using Mimecast URL Threat Protection, make an exception for teams.microsoft.com. This will add Teams to the whitelist. The Teams URL is rewritten by Mimecast URL Threat Protection and other similar programs. As a result, you will be unable to attend the meeting. Whitelisting Teams should be able to do the task.
You may also have the same problem if you’re using an email security gateway. Because the tool rewrites Teams Meeting invitation URLs for external meetings, this is the case. As a result, external participants are unable to use the Join button. Alternatively, you may frequently encounter this issue when attending meetings hosted by third parties.
Internal invitations, on the other hand, should operate well because the email security gateway does not change the URL.
Simply add an exception for https://teams.microsoft.com/ to resolve the problem. The gateway will not modify the URL in this manner.
Method 6. Reinstall the Teams App
Uninstall Teams if nothing else works.
1. Select Programs and Features from the Control Panel.
2. Then pick Microsoft Teams under Uninstall a Program.
3. To uninstall the desktop client, select Uninstall.
4. Restart your PC and run the Teams installation again.
