Method 1. Restart Explorer.exe process

Restarting Explorer.exe process can solve the problem immediately if the original issue was caused by a small bug which can often occur if your Windows PC has been running for a long time now. The easiest method to do so is by using Task Manager.

Note: All of the icons from your desktop and the taskbar are going to disappear.

Step 1. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del key combination.

Step 2. Click on More details, go to the Details tab, scroll down and find Explorer.exe. Right-click it and click End Task.

Step 3. Click Yes on the message displaying “WARNING: Terminating a process can cause undesired results including loss of data and system instability…” if you agree.

Step 4. Next, click on File and select Run new task. When the New Task windows pop up, type “explorer.exe”. Click OK.

Method 2. Disable Some Startup Items

There are certain services and processes which occur as soon as you turn Windows on and these processes may be causing these issues. Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put msconfig in the Run dialog box. Click OK.

Step 4. Navigate the Services tab, tick the “Hide all Microsoft services” checkbox, then click “Disable all“.

Method 3. Internet Explorer Bugs

It occurs that Internet Explorer can also cause these types of errors, especially if you are running an older version of both Internet Explorer and Windows. Make sure you exit any open instances of Internet Explorer before checking if the error is solved:

Step 1. Open the Task Manager.

Step 2. Click on More details in order to expand the Task Manager , and find all entries of the Internet Explorer processes (iexplorer.exe on older versions of Windows), right-click on them and select the End Task option.

Step 3. Check to see if the error is solved after exiting Internet Explorer.
