How to fix “A JavaScript error occurred in the main process” error in Discord/Skype

FIX 1. Re-install your program

In this first scenario, it’s your program‘s installation to blame, thus you either have to reset its settings or re-install the app. Follow these steps:

1. Click on Start menu and select Settings.

2. Go to Apps > Apps & features.

3. Scroll download and find Discord/Skype. Select it and click on Uninstall. Wait for your PC to remove Discord/Skype.

There are few methods to uninstall a program, but the most effective one is to use an uninstaller software such as Your Uninstaller. Your Uninstaller is a special application that can remove any application, including all its files and registry entries.

4. Reboot your PC.

5. Once that is finished, visit the publisher’s website and then download the latest version again.

Skype: https://www.skype.com

FIX 2. Delete your program’s folders from %AppData% and %LocalAppData%

This is similar to the method above, except you manually delete all of the program‘s data from your PC.

1. Open the Windows Explorer and select This PC.

2. Go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\YourProgramName

If you are unable to find the AppData folder, you may need to turn on the feature that allows you to show hidden files and folders. To do that, click on the “View” tab on File Explorer’s menu and check the “Hidden items” checkbox in the Show/hide section.

3. Right-click the program‘s folder and click Delete.

If you encounter a message saying that some files couldn’t have been deleted because they were in use, open the Task Manager and end it first.

4. Either use the Windows Key + R key combination or click the Start button or the search button next to it and type “Run” to open the Run dialog box. Type in “%localappdata%” and click OK.

5. Find the Skype/Discord folder in the folder which opens, right-click on it, and click the Delete.

6. Make sure that the folders are completely removed and that there are no more remaining files in it. Check to see if the JavaScript error still happens after rebooting your computer.

You may get an error labeled when you click on Start:
